The next annual ELyT Lab Workshop on March 12 to 14, 2012 in France
The 4th ELyT Lab workshop will be held in France from March 12 to 14, 2012, in Presqu'ile de Giens (south east).
ElyT School in Lyon 2011
The third edition of the ELyT School was held from the 4th to the 14th of September 2011 in Lyon with the visit of 30 students (20 PhD and 10 Master students) accompanied by four professors from Tohoku University.
The 3rd ELyT lab workshop
The 3rd ELyT lab workshop, held in Sendai during 3 days from February 22th to 24th 2011 has been a great success, involving about 100 researchers (among them 35 French attendees) and several industrial partners. This confirms the dynamism of our joint laboratory. Program and some presentations can be downloaded here. The website is regularly updated. Flow dynamics and heat transfers is an important topic in engineering sciences, from the point of view of fundamental research, as well as from the point of view of the wide range of applications for industrial or environmental issues. Concerning flow dynamics, the Institute for Flow Dynamics (IFS) of Tohoku University and the "Laboratoire de Mécanique des Fluides et d’Acoustique" in Lyon are sharing the same concern regarding the development of research with applications to industry. Many issues are of major interest for the two institutions and are already the subject of ongoing research programs, both in Lyon and Sendai, like flows and mixing in car engines, aerodynamics of high speed trains, acoustics emission and noise generation, cavitation, turbulent flows, interaction of flows with walls. Both institutions are developing modern experimental platforms in fluid mechanics and acoustics, as well as efficient numerical tools for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Heat transfer research is a strong axis of INSA-Lyon (Centre de Thermique de Lyon, CETHIL) in the frame of engineering sciences covers a wide range of issues, for temperatures associated with refrigeration systems to those reached in combustion, for sizes extending from nanostructures to the large scales of buildings. In this frame, studies are dedicated to the better understanding of heat exchanges by radiation, conduction and convection and their couplings with other physical or chemical phenomena; to control them thanks to phase change, aerodynamics instabilities and transitions, heat and cold transport, adsorption and desorption processes, etc. to characterize material radiative and thermo-physical properties by developing original and innovative experimental and inversion techniques; to predict heat transfer phenomena through the elaboration of appropriate physical modeling and simulation codes. Heat transfer research is relevant for a large variety of industrial and or societal concerns associated with aerospace, automobile, renewable energy and sustainable development, electronics, buildings engineering, to cite a few.
