The 3rd ELyT lab workshop
The 3rd ELyT lab workshop, held in Sendai during 3 days from February 22th to 24th 2011 has been a great success, involving about 100 researchers (among them 35 French attendees) and several industrial partners. This confirms the dynamism of our joint laboratory. Program and some presentations can be downloaded here. The website is regularly updated.
Over the past years, two major French “Grandes Ecoles” Ecole Centrale and INSA both located in Lyon and the prestigious University of Tohoku based in Sendai, Japan, have implemented a strong collaboration through education and research activities.
Moreover, 2007 has been a special year as the three institutions have respectively celebrated their 150th (ECL), 100th (Tohoku University) and 50th (INSA) anniversary. To commemorate this auspicious occasion, two Japan-France Joint Fora "Lyon-Tohoku, teaming for the future" have been organized, one in February in Lyon and the second one in Tokyo-Sendai in December.
Both in education and in research, remarkable achievements had been accomplished and the success of these working sessions, highlighting more potential fields of cooperation and common values such as "international, excellence" obviously emphasized the growth of exchanges and the increasing determination towards furthering development.
Therefore it has been decided, in accordance within the frame of the international and research strategy of the respective institutions, to implement an International Joint Laboratory as a relevant milestone. Needless to say, the CNRS recognition, (LIA/IAL "Laboratoire International Associé"/"International Associated Laboratory") appears essential for such a project.
The goal is to promote a network between academic and industrial partners from both countries. To face globalization and competition, to better foresee the next decades, fulfilling social and society requirements, strategic alliances are essential and the aim of this LIA is in fact to establish a major research base in Europe to deal with this evolving environment and respond to its needs.
